What is linocut?
Linocut is one way to print by hand!
Because of this, every print will be different despite great care taken to make them consistent. Also, there are bound to be little imperfections on the block that will show up in the print—places where the ink stuck to a low point, or a void where the blade slipped. That's the beauty of something made entirely by a human :)
Linocut is one of the most accessible ways to make prints, as you only need a lino block (traditionally, linoleum, hence "lino"), a cutting tool, ink, and paper.
It's a method of relief printing, which is revealing a design by taking away the area around it. Linocutting is a variation of woodcutting, which dates back 2000+ years. Linoleum, and more often rubber and plastic, are easier to cut.
